More realistically though, they probably would transferred BW Ash's stupidity unto Hilda if she was introduced as a rookie trainer, which would have been endearing to see. BW Ash's stupidity alongside Iris/Cilan's inclusion was just a failed attempt at nostalgia pandering. Without it, we probably might have gotten a more organic transition to gen 5 if they just followed the formula they had with Hoenn and Sinnoh.
