The globe is at a "stealing the cutlery" stage of elite abuse, this reaches a flash point faster with poorer countries because they've had worse corruption for longer and a politician with a fancy home is more noticeable when the average citizen is living in a favela/kampung. Poorer countries also have a larger young demographic more willing to set the streets on fire.
Expect to see more of this in the future.
