When I dripped my hands back into smut for the first time in over a decade, I let it be a non-canon piece of a scene I just kept getting a literal and metaphorical writeboner for, and felt better afterward. Also taking on oneshots with the goal of shooting one load, or several depending on how it pans out, is also a way to find your groove.
