It's obvious Civ 6 was not trying to purposely be ugly, it just turned out that way because they misinterpreted what people would like. And we know that's the case because they backpedaled on it with each dlc, being less exaggerated each time, and Civ 7 has clearly said, "fuck it, let's just go back to 5's look"
