Go through its tutorial and have a yaku reference sheet (the different patterns you need to score points) pulled up on the side. I'm hardly an experienced player but you only need to know the basics to understand the game.
If you've been watching her stream you can see it really comes down to decision making, which is why I personally enjoy watching.
