I listen almost exclusively to JP and Chinese ballads, while avoiding western rap like the plague. Some generalization like "no vibrato" or "weak" is just completely off the mark and spreading cultural misconceptions. Listen and feast on the vibrato from a song everyone in Asia grew up with.

If your point is however confined to "JP idol music", which probably translates to "AKB48 music", then that is even more unhelpful because it's no secret most of those girls can not sing (let alone talk about higher techniques).
