you start in daybreak town when the worlds were all united as one and there was peace then the master of masters foresaw the great war that would divide them all and basically destroy everything so he trusted his apprentices to basically find out why this would happen (just messing with them because he already knew exactly how it'd happen) and trusted his personal apprentice luxu to take care of his keyblade with the all seeing eye and a black box nobody knows what's inside. The eye is like a recorder, it just watches events unfold
big war happens as all the apprentices gather their own respective factions and go to war over kingdom hearts which they believed if summoned would bring back the master of masters who'd fix everything
after the war its all about defeating the darknesses that have arisen from people's hearts, these darknesses are just formless beings but are way more powerful than anything else by far, which then leads to you taking all of the darknesses into your body and trapping yourself in a sort of purgatory. They cant kill you, you cant kill them
but when you die you don't just fade away, you're given a second chance at life as you wake up as Xehanort on Destiny Island and begin your new life. Xehanort is trained by his own master and meets a friend Eraqus along the way but they find all these worlds ravaged by darkness because of the great war that happened
xehanort becomes sort of depressed and decides the only way to fix things is another great war to call the master of masters back so he casts aside his physical body and becomes just a raw soul going through time and telling different versions of himself like his heartless, his nobody, his younger self, his older self, and others to meet at this certain spot on this certain day at a certain time to form his organization 13
13 hearts of darkness the 7 princesses of heart will summon kingdom hearts. Sora is the wrench in his plan as he can wield the keyblade and is uncorruptable
