Trying to take a non-showbiz interpretation of the movies means you have to ignore Murray Franklin (Robert De Niro) bringing him onto his show and humiliating him for entertainment and you have to ignore Lady Gaga and her song about showbiz and stuff (e.g., you have to ask yourself "why the fuck would they choose those song lyrics if the movie isn't about showbiz?").
