I don't watch Hololive because the fans scare me, but I think it's important that both vtubers genuinely want to collab with each other because they think it'd be fun and not because they're trying to own the haters and laugh at them (Jurard). The fans that supply them (the girls) a paycheck will probably get angry and leave forever but that is solely their decision and the vtuber will have to put up with the consequences.
Sometimes the vtuber will backpedal and try to scrub their hands clean of the issue, some will continue disappointing the remaining paying fans until they just all leave, or maybe they'll keep doing it in a professional way that appeases them, like not hosting collabs on their channel.
I can't really say anything for Holostars since their fans already don't SC as much and would rather buy merch but I'm sure there are some that feel similarly to the paypigs on the girls' side, like yumejoshis who yume their oshi. But they make up such a small percentage of the total amount of fans that it's not worth making a comparison.
At the end of the day if your oshi does something you don't like you should just leave and find a new oshi. It'll probably make you happier at the end of the day. Just don't be a retard and talk about it outside of your containment zone or else you get the shitflinging that's currently happening on Twitter.
