It could be something so subtle that Mio thinks she's imagining things, a rustling of the grass, a breeze that twitches her ear, anything physical that ends up making invasive thoughts about children appear seemingly out of no where. The environment of the shrine can also be built up to be something truly spiritual, like it has that vibe that you can't really nail down, but something in you just knows that something is different about the place. That kinda stuff.
