For me it isn't "Oh gosh I want to become a girl," because I don't. Just become some random girl is not appealing. Nor is becoming some random man. It's more a feel of "Oh gosh I want to become this kind, sometimes-ditzy-sometimes-chill, big tiddie snow elf, with infinite alcohol tolerance, who is loved by her friends." In the same way, I would also be okay becoming any number of male fantasy characters. There is an appeal that isn't centered in gender, even though aspect is unavoidable.
