There's no need to break it down further since in this case the art is the representation of engagment.
Art is essentially (actual viewership) * (average % of artists in any given fanbase)
This removes OP's issues with bots, deadsubs, location, and companies hiding information. As bots and deadsubs aren't going to have any makeup of artists and won't be interacting with the art to encourage more.
The only problem I see arising is the previous point of designs playing a big part, however this seems to be a minor issue as the plethora of Mori and Irys art will show.
