I really enjoyed Sonny's Super Mario 64 stream today! Someone in a previous thread called it a good introduction for younger viewers who might not have grown up with the game - and I'd definitely agree with that. I'm by no means young, but I didn't own consoles growing up so I've never played a lot of the old retro gaming classics. This stream didn't have any native nostalgia appeal to me, but I felt it vicariously when he talked about the stages that gave him 'childhood trauma,' reminisced about his first time playing the game, and got just a tad bit emotional at the end credits. It was also nice to see other people in chat sharing their own stories and game knowledge and that Sonny even read and responded to some of those comments. I'm definitely looking forward to more retro game streams from him.
Thanks for listening to my TED talk. Sometimes it feels like vtubers are obligated to stream games because - well, that's what vtubers do. I'm glad we're seeing people branch out from that and do creative streams that play to their strengths now, but I'm also glad we have someone who genuinely loves playing video games. Maybe that's one reason why Sonny's streams always feel so warm to me.
