There's a whole world out there of PG-13 horror. Most iconic j-horror is actually very tame. Even (proper) Silent Hill is very, very reserved in terms of showing actual human beings getting physically hurt.
Point being there's lots to get into if you're not into slashers or post-2000s torture porn.
