>>87767952To add to this, the objection to Halloween comes from the protestants. They think its demonic and spread propaganda against Catholics. They even created the lie that it is based on celtic "samhein" which completely false and erroneous. Not only does does Halloween/All Saints Day come way earlier but by the time it reached Ireland those pagans had already died out by at least one thousand years. No one was celebrating samhein when Catholicism arrived to the celtics.
>actual connecttionsIn fact there are two real traditions that came from the Irish to influence Halloween. Jack O Lanterns and dressing up like monsters/demons.
There were no pumpkins but they did have turnips. They would carve out the turnips with scary faces and place candles in them to ward off evil spirits. It is also atrributed to the legend of Stingy Jack, which is where the name comes from.
As far as dressing up goes, there are many stories. But as far as Ireland goes, men would dress up like monsters and demons on the 31st and roam the town streets at night making loud noises and partying. They would do this as a mockery of the devil, when Ireland became Catholic, they understood that because our Lord Jesus Christ had triumphed over death through His resurrection, we Catholics do not fear death, nor the devil and his agents. They have no hold on us, so the Irish would dress like demons and monsters on halloween as a mockery of them, since they have no power over us. Others say its to scare the children into being good and holy, I would agree that its also a part of it.
>familyTell your family about it Nerissa, its their legacy too! Tell them I said hello and remember Halloween is good, we prepare for All Saints Day and All Souls day and make a mockery of the devil and evil. Samhein is so lame and faggy, that not even the Irish pagans were practicing it by the time St Patrick arrived. Tell your sister no to samhein, she seems the type to be into that. Tell her no as I am telling you NO if you have even the slightest bit of inclination to celebrate it. I dont allow you to have anything to do with it.
