There have been some good ones like YK2, and I think you need to play the other games because they're all great in some way, whether that be by the main villain, the introduction of a certain character, the plot, the combat or whatever.
The ending of Gaiden also hits hardest if you've played every mainline game. But yes, Y0 was the best one IMO.

I didn't like the change to turn-based combat and the fact that the boss fights would no longer be two men in a 1v1, clashing their ideals against each other but rather a group of people wailing on a single dude. Yeah sure, nakama and Dragon Quest, I get it, but still.
