>>53570966It's a take on European Fantasy through a japanese lens, but it's pretty old so it predates the period where everything became extremely generic and standardized. From afar it kinda looks like your kitchen sink fantasy, with elves, dwarves, necromancers, dark elves, dragons, paladins, clerics, but the designs are excellent and the way the character narratives tie into the politics of the settings feel deeper than most fantasy in anime. The various factions have internal conflicts and motivations, even the obvious "villain" faction.
I think FE has some Lodoss DNA so I guess it's no surprise I'd be reminded of it.
The bit that reminded me of it is that Lodoss is also about a desolate island nation filled with demons (Marno) waging a war of conquest on a more fertile continent (Lodoss), which parallels Negazion and Polaria nicely.
I'd recommend watching the 13 ep OVA by madhouse, it's really an excellent bit of anime. The TV series has some slow bits but it's a good time too.
