Hearing a Vtuber say “Hi [NAME], welcome!” is weird enough when I’m used to 99% of Vtubers not even noticing when new viewers come in. Hearing them say “Welcome back [NAME]!”, remembering me when I said maybe two things in chat last stream, is something else altogether. It’s scary, having actual expectations placed on me to interact with them and hold a conversation, but it’s also… nice? I feel like the “live” aspect of a livestream actually means to me for the very first time, instead of just treating it like background noise like some video essay.
