With this theory in mind, I recently tried downloading a video via yt-dlp to see if it counted as a view the next day, but it didn't. Maybe it would count if it was downloaded via a bot or something that more directly acts as browser, like Puppeteer? It probably matters whether it stays on the video watch page like a normal viewer, rather than using the API. In any case, I hope you're right. Maybe I can finally give people a definitive answer on this if I get in.
