I'd argue vtuber avatars, as they're used now, only serve to control the context. While it should be obvious anyone streaming any kind of content puts up some degree of a character, nothing discourages people from connecting that person to shit outside of stream. Addition of a vtuber avatar sets clear boundaries - anything featuring the avatar is open to connections, all the other shit is you reaching out.
