This feels like it was related to the IPO more than anything but they lucked out with the scouting and quickly realized there was still room, and an appetite, for a new official gen. The male shit at the start was likely a social experiment for it pretty much stopped as soon as they took off and made a lot of money from a male audience which clearly wasn't the original intention.
