Both on the level that any professional director helming a multi-million dollar project obviously wants it to succeed, and that the only way MGS or Nier challenges players is maybe through trying to unravel their stories. Like, say what you will about MGS lore but the gameplay has always been well refined and only asked audiences to maybe do a few new button combos to play proficiently.
