I had a girlfriend like 9 years ago with a similar Masochistic 'put me in my place' personality. She liked when I brushed her hair or massaged her neck/nape but really hated anything other than that.
Generally, you get too cutesy or sensitive with that stuff and the kimochi warui alarm goes off in the femoid brain pretty quick. They want to cuddle/pat/lean etc. on YOU and if you reciprocate in any way they will physically reel back.
