I’ve been seeing this a lot recently, where the general Japanese otaku fanbase gets outraged whenever a vtuber (mainly from Hololive) is featured in a major collab like this with an anime. More recently there was drama about an older collab with Aqua being featured in an SAO game, and also One Punch Man doing an illustration collab with several Holo members. The issue seems to be that even tho these Hololive members are fans of these series, they are still going beyond the limits of being a fan by getting intertwined with the original work. That’s why members like Iroha or Flare always get apprehensive about expressing themselves regarding their Holo oshis, because they don’t want to cross the line of being a fan and keeping that distance. EN/ID do not have this at all, given how fucking obsessive some of them are over other members like Gigi or Ollie. Looks like Holo “dominance” is starting to thin, and even in their home terf people are fed up with them being everywhere.
