Hopping right into grammar asap shouldn't hurt at all and you'll even pick up vocab on the way and it should stick better. I'd say it's "the best way" desu. But ofc you do you.
Is there a particular reason you went straight into learning kanji the way you are?
It seems to me that learning kanji individually (rather than compounds/jukugo) is better in the long run, but I might be in the minority about that.
(I also prefer textbooks.)
