Americans know it and are usually taught it was one hell of a last resort because nothing else worked.
The others yeah are usually glossed over, but thenagain I haven't been in a classroom for 20 years. The only thing I remember kids learning about Vietnam was that it was a horrific mistake and we never should've been a part of it. Just a bunch of senseless soldier deaths for no reason to achieve some unknown goal.
