the only reason I liked vtubers from around 2016 on is that they were (somewhat) akin to idols and had a strict code of conduct that they overwhelmingly adhered to unless not doing so was specifically part of their gimick or context allowed it.
they would treat sex as an actually sensitive topic, they would treat profanity as being profane. they would act as if they were professionals (to a degree) and made sure to be a simple fun ideal female for the male audience looking for that sort of thing.
it was refreshing to me, everyone everywhere all the time was perpetually swearing and talking about genitals. treating next to nothing as sacred and being sarcastic and irreverent about literally everything. the kayfabe was also neat, I enjoyed watching someone play a proper character in real time and adapt as needed.
with time they have become functionally indistinguishable from regular streamers and near universally resort to "haha sex boob cock cum peepee poopoo" humor and have pretty much zero distinguishing features outside of the anime skin.
I'm well aware that these are adult women who get dicked down, get married, have kids etc. and certainly don't act or talk like anime girls. I had no delusions otherwise, but really enjoyed when they pretended otherwise, like watching slice of live anime in the form of a person doing a live stream I suppose.
am I just a jaded unicorn? pic rel is one of the only examples of currently big and successful vtubers even half-assing the idol bit and kayfabe
