There's just that, moments, is not very prevelant so when they actually happened there all the more shocking. If there was nothing but a gore fest the entire time when they actually happened everybody would be like "yeah, but it's been like 20 minutes of this already, I don't really care anymore". Higurashi is all about the suspense and the dread so when something terrible actually does happen it really hits you!
