I really enjoyed watching Sonny's Ghostrunner stream today! He's quite consistent with the type of games he picks up - this one plays a bit like first-person Katana Zero, but it's got Titanfall 2 movement mechanics. This was also on his debut list of games he wanted to stream - Rain World was there too, actually! - so it's nice seeing him staying true to what he initially promised.
It's always a bit of a treat to watch Sonny pick up a new game, especially when it's one that offers a good degree of freedom but also has a bit of a tutorial. The game presents new mechanics to him and he immediately goes, 'Well, it told me to do this, so what if I did something else instead?' That's the kind of attitude that really lends itself to discovering game secrets, but he also doesn't really have the patience to do true completionist runs - so instead he's just occasionally surprised and gets excited over it. Which is cute, honestly. Keeps things balanced, but still interesting.
The other thing I've always liked about how he approaches games is how few qualms he has about dying. He dies a lot, often for extremely stupid reasons - and sure, he whines a bit about how much he dies. But he always goes for fun plays rather than playing it safe, and he just picks himself up after each death and keeps going. It's something that's evident in pretty much all the death loop-heavy games he's played, but it's especially funny in this one since the stage end screens show how your death count compare to your friends and both Fulgur and Bobon have played this game already. I wonder if he'll comment on his numbers some time, or if he'll choose to ignore the game publicly shaming him for his failures.
Thanks for listening to my TED talk. The text in this image says 'Yeah, I suck!'
