Actually on that point, they did try. The black screen did more damage than anything dramafags made up. Shit like 2% or Riku's yacht were memes for over a year and didn't impact the branch numbers until the livers themselves started shitting on ex-coworkers who were beloved by the fanbase. If you force people to pick sides in a reputation war don't be surprised when they side with the one who didn't instigate it. Corpos would do well to learn from Niji's downfall that even when your best talents leave you still have to treat them with basic decency or you risk alienating their fans.
