You mentioned working your boring job. Do you do customer support or talk to people often? For how long do you think about one particular customer before you start thinking about the next one? Because in the postage service, I imagine you're not going to be the only person in there sending mail.
This may sound rude, but if it helps, try to remember you are NOT the main character. You don't really matter that much to others. You are the protagonist of your own side story, but in the same way the old store clerk isn't relevant to you, you are not relevant to most people in the UPS.
And that's fine, because you are relevant and important to the people who matter most to you. Your friends, family and probably some fellow anons.
