“Well Anon, if you continue like this, I’m sure you’ll be out of here in no time. Just try not to relapse again”
“Anon, it’s lunchtime!” An angel in white strolls by your bed with a food trolley.
“Oh right, I didn’t realise it was already dinner time. I’ll leave you to your meal.”
“Thanks doctor.”
“Here say ‘ahhhh.’” Said Angel now holds a spoonful of soup before your mouth.
“Jeez Kanata. I’m not that weak anymore, I can feed myself.” You try to take the spoon for yourself but she reels it back.
“Ah ah ah!” she wags her finger. “As long as you're in this hospital, you have to follow what I say. I’m doing what's best for you."
“Still, do you have to do things like this?” The doctor is still watching from the doorway, an annoying smirk is plastered on his face ”...it’s embarrassing.”
“Mouu~ You should be happy about this! Do you know how many people would kill to be fed by a beautiful girl like me?” You are extremely happy about it. Who wouldn't be happy to have such a kind and gorgeous girl caring for you 24/7? You’re honestly glad you got sick with this awful chest infection just so you could be in the company of such an angel.
But such feelings still don't negate the embarrassment that comes with being babied in front of other people
“Come on, after I feed you, I need to wipe you down.”
“Again, I’m a grown, somewhat recovering man, I can take a shower by myself. And do you have to say that so loud?” Some other nurses snicker as they walk by.
“What did I say earlier? Hmmm?”
All you can do is sigh and go “Ahhhh”. If there’s one thing you’ve learnt about her, it’s that her stubbornness knows no bounds.
“Is it good? I made it a little different this time so I hope it turned out well”
“It’s good.” It isn’t good, in addition to the usual iron-y taste her cooking has, it’s also incredibly bitter. Your facial muscles are working overtime to keep you smiling here.
“Really? I’m so glad!” Bad food aside, It’s sad to think that this is gonna come to an end soon but so is life. You can’t stay sick forever, you have a life to live; even if you wouldn’t mind staying.

Blood.
It erupts from your mouth with each cough, seeping down the corners of your mouth. The feeling of that red viscous liquid slowly travelling down your chin, over your neck is wholly uncomfortable. But that familiar taste of iron is ever so more disturbing.
You would love to sit up, wipe your mouth, drink some water, and call for a doctor but you barely have enough energy to formulate those needs in your head. No matter how much you urge your muscles to move, they remain dormant.
It’s getting hard to breathe. You thought you were getting better this time for sure, even the doctor had hope. So why is this happening all of a sudden? Is this it? To die by drowning in your own blood? You don’t want to die, you don’t want to die, you don’t want to die.
But you’re powerless to save yourself.
You see before you hear, in the darkness of the night, in the fading of your life. There she stands, like an angel in white.
“Anon!” She rushes over to your side, raising your head to rest on her chest while cradling your upper body.
“I’m sorry I… food…”
Your hearing fails you as your consciousness begins to waver but you wonder why she’s apologising? And 'food'? You want to ask but your blood-soaked lips can only weakly mouth your questions and even then she isn’t paying attention. Her eyes are closed as she rocks back and forth with your head, only uttering “sorry” over and over again.

Sunlight strikes you right in the eyes which only adds insult to injury in how awful you feel. You can still taste the blood in your mouth and it honestly makes you wanna puke. Although you feel somewhat better than before but that’s not saying much after being on death's door. At least you can move again, albeit very slowly.
As you force yourself to sit up, Kanata who has had her head resting beside you stirs as well.
“Morning”
She lunges at you and hugs you tight. “Oh god Anon, I’m so glad you’re alright.”
“Me too. And just when I thought I was getting better huh?”
“Yeah it’s a shame but I think it's also a blessing in disguise."
“W-what? Can't say I think the same."
“Well, it means you’ll be here for longer and we’ll get to be together for longer!”
“I guess... but it feels like I’m gonna stay in the hospital forever at this rate.”
“And I’ll be here to take care of you forever if that happens.”
“Wow, you really are an angel aren’t you Kanata?”
“Your angel Anon.” She smiles a dreamy smile, you think you've fallen in love again.
“Oh right!” Kanata perks up. “I made some rice pudding for breakfast but uuuuuu~ it’s all cold now”
“Eh, I'm fine with cold rice pudding too. Ahhhhhh.”
Kanata slips a spoonful into your mouth. It’s bittersweet this time around, more emphasis on the sweet though. And of course, that signature iron taste you’ve become so accustomed to. You wonder how she changed it up today.
