It's not necessarily about being overly parasocial but like...vtubers are an escape, something I can get emotionally invested in while being far enough removed from my life that it's always something I can retreat to when I'm miserable. So having that taken away from me hits even harder.
Anyway regarding your oshi, I do think you had good intentions in supporting him. You simply idealized an immature and naive person, because they seemed to exude qualities like being pure of heart and fun-loving and wholesome. This could've easily been rosebuds who also treat their oshi like a child. It just so happens that immature men often have more of a propensity for negative traits I suppose. I hope you don't let this ruin your appreciation of purehearted and wholesome men, because I assure you they do exist. It's just in real life those men don't have himbo qualities, most of them are introverts who are extremely shy.
