Hi, numberfagger here.
I see a lot of bait threads in the catalog right now referring to low numbers and thought I'd give everyone an update into what's going on for those who (understandably) don't want to wade in to /#/
Around the 26th of December CCVs started to inexplicably drop. At first it was assumed this was like the 2020 cull where CCVs across the board got slashed one day due to Youtube adjusting it's algorithm. As time has passed it has become more and more clear this is not like 2020, a "one and done" deal. This is getting progressively worse over time.
From what we've been able to understand at the moment it appears individual Youtube accounts are being flagged for "spamlike" activity and no longer contribute to the viewcount for ANY stream they watch. You can confirm if you're a bot by disabling your adblocker and joining a 2 view stream and seeing if the viewcount raises within 30 seconds to a minute.
Numbers for all Holos are currently at an estimated ONE THIRD of what they should be. Yes that means Pekora got 120k for her Pokemon Tournament, yes that means Towa got 70k for her 3D live.
This effect is becoming worse over time as more accounts are getting flagged every day. The reasoning is unclear but it possibly has to do with spamming emotes in chat or some other suspicious "botlike" activity that is common among vtuber fans. As a result CCVs are starting to tank into the 3 digits even for vtubers who clearly have 2000 or more people watching.
Until this is completely figured out I'd recommend not engaging with any posts that use low CCV as bait.
