>>97570273I don't think there's a chuuba alive that would prefer 1 guy donating, say, 1000 dollars a week over 100 guys donating 10 dollars a week. viewers are fickle to begin with, and people willing to whale like that usually come with their own expectations and desires of you. at a minimum the chuuba pretty much has to baby the whale every stream in order to lock them in, even if the whale is an annoying cringelord, and live in constant fear that they're going to do something that chases the whale(s) away, because no one likes the idea of losing a sizeable fraction of their income instantaneously. then even if they don't do anything wrong and a whale naturally drifts away on their own, it's hard for the chuuba to tell from their PoV and depending on the girl, you get a menhera episode out of it.
the real problem though is if they don't handle the whale chasing/babying very carefully, they end up working counter productively from what they would really prefer. overbearing, obvious viewer oshi'ing ends up scaring away small donators (and really fans in general), and makes them even more reliant on the whale(s). the only exception to this is if you have enough whales that start competing with each other, and establish a donation culture of constant insufferable attention whoring
like TTS era coni, which kind of acts like the fake hype men that street gambling scammers use to lure dumb and easily influenced people in, but most chuubas don't get that. this whole having to balance viewer attention thing is (kinda hopefully) running through the back of their mind the entire time they stream or interact with their community, and depending on how competitive the community is, that can indeed get very exhausting and/or stressful.
it's all why merch, memberships, sponsorships etc. are infinitely more sustainable and reliable routes of making money than donations.
