It's providing the "supportive" side of it.
The side where he holds up your shitty drawing and says he's proud of you because he thinks you've gotten better.
Where he encourages your hobbies because it's nice to see you passionate about something.
The side that says "You don't have to prove anything. I'm always proud of you"
The thing that helps build up a young mans confidence. That in the cut throat results orientated modern west doesn't really exist. Because if you aren't amazing immediately? What good are you?
