I have played so much DMC3 and fought Vergil 3 so many times that I want to share some useless boomer vidya autism with you guys. In Devil May Cry 3, bossfight Vergil lets you land 10 "clean hits" during hitstun before he goes into auto parry mode. Each attack has an arbitrarily assigned value to determine whether the 10 value has been reached and Vergil breaks out of hitstun and enters into his parry state. Non-multi hit Beowulf melee attacks count as 1 while multi-hit slash attacks like rebellion combo B or million stab have <1 hit values, meaning multiple hits are needed to reach a 1. Stinger and Helmbreaker, however, are considered 2 hits and you can only do 5 of each before Vergil breaks out of hitstun.
Vergil's Devil Trigger form has super armor and doesn't flinch from normal attacks like his base form, but you can knock him out of his DT form. Vergil's DT form can only take the equivalent of 3 clean hits. Runie actually did this unknowingly when she perfectly punished a triple DT Judgement cut with 3 hits from Beowulf combo A.
