For me, it's not necessarily about being simple. It's about the a playful style, used to emphasize silliness or cuteness. It's definitely true that seeking cuteness pushes me towards artists with simpler styles, but simplicity is incidental. Sakuramochi isn't always simple, for example. KeenBiscuit on the other hand, almost defines the word.
