Dedication to ArtGun is costly - in time to make, effort in setting up tracking, difficulty in diagnosing and resolving issues etc; And not everyone in the audience is as devout on ArtGun as we.
Inversely, a 2D model is cheaper and more efficient, easier to troubleshoot and so forth. Even if the end result is an inferior model (to us at least)
My hypothesis is that traditionally 3D chuubas are trying their hand at 2D representation now - Lumi, BuffPup and indeed girl_dm_ - as a way of hedging their bets, to see how the audience reacts to the 2D model and seeing if it's worth leaning fully into it or not. An experiment of sorts, and a way of diversifying their image to attract more followers.
Think of this as a derivative of our faith, not a replacement - the old models will still be used and revered. It is worth remembering many of these 2D transitions are rigged by ArtGun so are still blessed.
Incidentally girl_dm_'s is not, which is quite blasphemous and I have no excuse for.
Besides, we still have AiCandii as our rock of the old ways.
