Theres memorized prayers that are official and must be recited word by word like The Lord's Prayer and Ave Maria. Then theres other church prayers that were created by saints and the church but are of lesser tier like the prayer before meals. And then theres prayers that you can freestyle on the fly like you said for anything you wish to pray for
