It's been so much fun. I've played the first two (and the DLC from the second) and the gameplay loop of 3 has been kind of addicting
There's a class system in 3 where each character can be a different class with all sorts of capabilities, skills, arts, and what's been fun is trying out all these different classes and combinations
I'd say you should still play the first two anyway just to see how the battle system changes over the course of the games, and to also see how the games connect with one another, but 2 and from what I've played of 3 so far seem to stand on their own as it is for the most part
