However telescopic scope making only really became a thing in around mid 19th century, when production methods and quality of glasses improved, together with improvements in the ballistics performance of small arms (which can utilise the magnifying power of the scopes). There were documented cases of experimental small rifled cannons having scopes in the late 18th century, but they went nowhere, partly due to them being too "advanced" but also that they do not fulfill any roles that are deemed missing. Most people just rely on simple iron sights. Though sporting or hunting guns often have more elaborate sights.
