I'm a millenial and I remember back when I was a kid when gays were super taboo here in the usa and my parents had a gay friend. Oh, he pretended he wasn't gay but he always invited over his "friend" and we knew they were lovers. But we all smiled and pretended they weren't and everyone was happier for it. They were genuinely nice too. I think forcing them to act normal helps them too.
