If nijisanji aren't idols, then why do they use idol terms like oshi and gachikoi?
Why did they debut with an original group song?
Why are they 3 members like an idol sub-unit?
Why do their JP senpais do 3D lives that are the exact same as what hololive does?
Why is their an unspoken expectation that they're supposed to be "seiso"? Half of finana's brand is that she says things that she's not "supposed" to say. But why is that expectation there in the first place? If she were in vshojo, no one would bat an eyelash at her sexual comments.
They certainly have more leeway than the other company when it comes to certain rules and expectations, but they kinda still are idols. There was never a hard and fast rule that idols cannot interact with males at all. This is a misunderstanding of idol culture. A few unicorns may be upset, but clean and business-like associations between idols and males are totally fine (such as their managers). I wouldn't argue that all of nijisanji are idols, some definitely eschew that entirely, but many are and I would include LazuLight and Obsydia among that group. AnyColor knew what they were doing when they launched the EN branch and deliberately copied the hololive model as much as possible. We'll see how things change once the male wave is introduced, but for now, I think that NijiEN being idol-like is part of the point.
