I've been rewatching old Iron Chef episodes and I just finished the debut episode of the 3rd Japanese Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto. Of course today his name is synonymous with Japanese cuisine but back then he was a young rising star, who incorporated new age techniques and was seen as "Japanese New York Style". He goes up against a very traditional Japanese chef in the Red Snapper battle and ultimately comes out on top because he brings new things to Japanese cooking while still being Japanese. He's not constrained by tradition. That's what I feel vtubing and Hololive should be like. They should still unmistakably be idols, the same way Morimoto's cuisine is still unmistakably Japanese, but they should also not feel constrained by the limits of traditional idols.
