There's substantial personnel shortages all across the board, and that means things are just not keeping up with the demand of healthcare. Having a huge number of stockpiled nonessential surgeries and procedures that got delayed due to Covid has not helped things, either. Floor managers are literally calling up recent retirees and begging them to come back in as full time workers just to supplement the workforce. Nurses are *scary* because of how much overtime they've been forced to pull. Honestly, I'm surprised that they've managed to manage the situation well enough that the healthcare system is only slow, and not utterly nonfunctional.
