It's pretty wild watching such a story driven series start out with a whole party of Create a Party (even though Warrior of Light is the canonical name for yourself and you're a very handsome swordsman with a cool armor set.) It's been your typical JRPG run, with Oga going from town to town to obtain spells and weapons and wipe out hordes of enemies on the way to become stronger and stronger and thus save the world from whatever evil there is to vanquish.
