You can get into your own undesirable and sometimes ugly feelings through the story and characters on the screen in a lot safer manner that trying to get into your own head by yourself and having a consequential breakdown over it. Stories help create that proxy that adds safety to this process.
There was a line during the last boss that made me physically recoil and leave my pc to cry for an hour but I really did feel better afterwards. So be strong and try to get the best out of this experience, it is your husband (delusional but it's valid here as long as it helps) who's guiding you through this. I feel like crying together with him might make those emotions feel more validated in a way.
