Making an alternative universe with a different story approach is essentially making a completely new character, just with the same appearance and name. If Alice was raped and killed by Jason, but then it was just an "alternate universe", I wouldn't consider it an event that happened to Alice. If it's a one-time even then just write is as canon, ignore how it fits into the story, and don't mention any alternate timelines - so it feels real.
