Not all owners are great but at least they still have something, they have a vision for their company that they can follow and you rarely see owner selling their soul for that 1% extra profit for shareholders. You also see less short-term decision making since having a good quarter isn't as important.
Public companies have no space in creative fields in my opinion. They ruin everything that they touch and rarely allow for inovation to happen.
